There is an interesting, growing movement in Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Holland. In these countries, there are no laws that explicitly ban psychedelic mushrooms and truffles. Entrepreneurs and magic mushroom fans saw an opportunity began to offer magic mushroom retreats. Magic mushroom retreats are allow people to dose on Psilocybe cubensis, Psilocybe mexicana, and other types of shrooms to experience a hallucinogenic trip in safe, and legal setting while providing guests with a vacation-like atmosphere. Jamaica’s MycoMeditation is one of the first magic mushroom retreats in the world. For as little as $1,200, you get a seven-day stay, three large doses of Psilocybe cubensis, and your private room right next to the Jamaican ocean. What more can a psychonaut ask for? Eric Osborne, the founder of MycoMeditations, believes shrooms are safer than alcohol. Recent scientific studies support his claim. Several research have shown magic mushrooms may be the key to treat depression, addiction, and even boost spirituality. These retreats aren’t simply for people who are looking for their “next great drug adventure.” It’s a place for people like Diane Dodge, a 59-year old colorectal cancer patient. Doctors informed her she has less than 3 years to live. While struggling with depression, she read how magic shrooms relieve the fear of death. After booking a trip to Jamaica and swallowing 5 grams of shrooms, her outlook in life changed. “I would start thinking about the question of death and I would just start laughing,” says Diane. The shrooms helped her gain a new perspective. The concept of death is now ridiculous to her. “I have all my old energy back.” Throughout the seven days, visitors go on guided hikes, enjoy massages, and are served daily breakfast and dinner. Three times during the week, the guests are taken to a private beach for a facilitated nighttime mushroom session with a large dose of magic shrooms – 5 grams – to go on private journeys. MycoMeditation is not the only magic mushroom retreat in the world and it’s not the last. Several psychedelic organizations are already planning retreats in Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Spain, and Bali. A magic mushroom retreat is not for everyone but for some travelers, it is a new way to see the world.
