The Global Drugs Survey 2017 reports that magic mushrooms are the safest prohibited drugs one can consume. This year’s survey is the largest survey so far involving 119,846 people across 50 countries. By the end of the survey, magic mushrooms were determined to have a statistically lower potential of harm compared to other substances. For every 10,000 individuals, only 0.2% of them reported seeking emergency medical treatment. The second safest illicit drug was cannabis which had 0.6% of its users needing emergency medical intervention and LSD at 1%. Meanwhile, the most harmful illicit drug is methamphetamine with a whopping 4.8% of emergency cases per 1,400 users, followed by synthetic cannabis with 3.2% per 1,200 users, and alcohol coming in third with 1.3% per 100,000 users. This study also points out more interesting details with regards to magic mushrooms usage. There are variations to how people prefer their magic mushrooms. Belgium, Hungary, and Finland are the top three countries that prefer to use magic mushrooms they grew on their own while Colombians, Kiwis, and Norwegians prefer to hunt for wild magic mushrooms. Micro-dosing was also discussed in the study. This is a new wave in the community of psychonauts when people take small, barely noticeable doses of magic mushrooms, and use them to boost performance, improve mood, and even alleviate depression, ADD, ADHD, and PTSD. Health professionals and scientists recognize the potential of micro-dosing but the psychedelic’s illegal status is a hindrance to further studies. For the past 50 to 60 years, governments have put a ban on substances that alter the consciousness to promote mind expansion and critical thinking. Unfortunately, it only led to promoting black market activities and the production of synthetic drugs which even different War on Drugs in other countries were unable to make a dent in. Ultimately, the findings of the Global Drug Survey 2017 is not an open invitation for people to start binging on magic mushrooms. It simply means that under normal conditions, magic mushrooms are the less dangerous choice compared to other psychedelics, entheogens, intoxicants, and stimulants. This study is also evidence that governments may have to consider laws centered on criminalizing the use of psilocybin from magic truffles and magic mushrooms, as well as magic mushrooms grow kits. These laws usually refer to psilocybin as a dangerous, life-threatening drug despite current studies showing it doesn’t pose any risk to society or the individual when used responsibly and with moderation. Psilocybin is the chemical compound in magic mushrooms and magic truffles. It stimulates receptors in the brain to create cross-connections in areas which usually don’t interact. Because of this, psilocybin expands al 5 senses, enabling people to perceive beyond the normal. Evidence also shows how psilocybin stimulates the part of the brain responsible for imagination and abstract thoughts to gain new insights. On top of their medical and therapeutic value, magic mushrooms and magic truffles have a historical value to humans. Cultures all over the world have used psychedelics such as magic mushrooms and magic truffles for religious and spiritual reasons. Scientists also theorized how magic mushrooms were necessary for the evolution of the human mind. People who want to gain access to a higher consciousness through psilocybin can purchase magic mushrooms, magic truffles and magic mushrooms grow kits online.
